La Paz!
Hello from Bolivia! What a spectacular setting this city wot I am in is in. It was like driving in to something out of the Lord of the Rings film. Well it would be, were it not so utterly latin american, 21st century and third world. And there aren´t any elves or dwarves etc...My bus was late but I managed to hook up with my new boss and her husband, Abdul (a Bolivian man but christened Abdul by his father to irritate his Jewish father in law - genius!) who fed me and gave me beer to drink. I start my teaching course tomorrow and am here for minimum 9 weeks. If they want me and I want them I could then potentially work until Christmas. We shall see. I´m a little apprehensive as you might imagine.
Went to the market in El Alto with the aforemementioned Abdul which was pretty amazing. i bought a hat. Managed to get gobbed on twice (usually a prelude to getting your bag slashed or wallet nicked), but I escaped unscathed thanks to having my wits and Abdul about me. I didn´t have anything worth nicking on me anyway, having sagely left it in the house where I am staying. Which belongs to a sweet lady who lives there with her 2 sons.
Anyway, I must pop off. More soon. I have managed to upload my photos and you can see them at http://www.flickr.com/photos/36031590@N00/. Go backwards - i.e. start from the last page and work your way to the start. They aren´t much cop, I´m afraid.
Bye.
